Ben Miller's M3 site

Benjamin Miller: Archtop guitar, guitar, drums (Sproton Layer)
Laurence Miller: Drums, keyboard, guitar (Sproton Layer)
Roger Miller: Bass and electronics w/looping system, drums

All tracks were recorded improvisations - some totally spontaneous, some with a few parameters worked out. Other instruments were then overdubbed to bring out the character of the pieces. This is very abstract music which references rock, but does not often "rock", if you know what I mean. Superb music for being just on the brink of sleep or on the brink of returning from sleep. As if the screws and bolts that hold music to normal scaffolding have all been removed.

In 1969-1970 the Brothers Miller formed Sproton Layer (see discography). In the mid-'70's they formed The 4th World Quartet, a precursor to Birdsongs of the Mesozoic. In the punk/post-punk era, Laurence and Benjamin damaged Michigan in Destroy All Monsters (with former members of the Stooges and MC5) while Roger damaged his ears in Mission of Burma. Currently, Benjamin performs solo and with Third Border in the New York area; Laurence (alias "Mr.Laurence") performs rock songs for kids in the Ann Arbor area; Roger maintains The Binary System, Mission of Burma and The Alloy Orchestra in Boston. All members have recorded numerous CDs and vinyl slabs.
